Your First Website

Filed under: Webmaster — LiNuX @ 6:58 pm

Well if you are new to making websites and want to know what type of website to make and manage, just read this post and hopefully this will help you figure out what you want to do. Usually people go for making a whole forum as their first site after being part of another forum thinking they can do a job better than the other blog, well if that’s you, just erase that thought and just rethink what you really want to do.

There is a reason I ask you to stay away from making a forum as your first blog. That reason is that you don’t have enough experience at webmastering and since this is your first site we can all assume you have no experience at managing a website. So stay away from making a forum because it will eat up your time and give you a headache like a 2 year old kid.

Well what I would suggest is opening a regular HTML website and if you do not have experience with HTML, you can always open up a blog. Blogs are easy to use and I recommend using the WordPress Blog CMS. It is easy to use, easy to manage, and easy to update. You don’t need any HTML or coding knowledge at all besides knowing how to install it. If you have a cpanel host with fantastico, you can set one up in 2 minutes from fantastico. If you do not know how to set it up or do not have fantastico, I will post later on what you can do in order to set up wordpress.

Topic of your site is also very important. So first you have to ask yourself, “what do I want to write about?” Well if you like games, set up a blog and write about the new games coming out. If you want to give tips on how to lose weight, well guess what you should do, write posts about how to lose weight. This is just a simple tip to get started on thinking about your site’s topic.

Please note: this post assumes that you have a web host and a domain before you set up a blog. Without either your ideas are pretty useless until you get a host and a domain to host it. Hosting should be around $3 to $10 per month if you look at the right places and you can get a domain for under $10 at most places.

Good luck with your first website, just remember to stay away from making a forum at first and just try to open a blog and see how far it goes first. Get knowledge of how easy it is to manage a website and where you can go to advertise the site to get visitors and even members. Slowly as you get more knowledge, feel free to move into bigger things such as a whole forum or even a whole flash website.
