A General Forum

Filed under: Forum Management — LiNuX @ 7:45 pm

I have been a part many forums and the one’s that I’ve seen succeed are the forums that focus on a certain niche. If it focuses just on music with a few off topic sections, it will go very far. But if it focuses on EVERYTHING in general with no push towards any subject over the other, it can get pretty boring and confusing. (more…)

Don’t Argue with Admin

Filed under: Forum Management — LiNuX @ 1:53 pm

If you are an admin and you have rules, do you really like people saying that they are completely wrong or BS and they should be changed? Of course not, so you should not be going around doing that about other sites. If you do not have a website to manage and you don’t know how that feels, just take my advice and don’t argue with the administrator’s rules because you will regret it later on and you will wish that you have listened to me before.

No one likes people to break their own rules. Arguing is one thing and arguing with admin about rules is another. You should NOT argue about the rules. You can always request or suggest that the rules be changed or get added on but if you go straight on attacking or insuling the rules, you won’t get too far in that forum because you are most likely to get banned. Good luck and Follow ALL Rules.

Checking For Spam Members

Filed under: Forum Management — LiNuX @ 6:02 pm

All forums and blogs gets spam members. It is almost inevitable. If you have vbulletin forum - there are several mods together that can keep your blog from spam bots. But it’s still unlikely that you will stop the spamming people that come around. These people tend to spam your boards or blogs with links of illegal or warez products which can hurt you badly. But there are several signs you can look for. It can be seen as some sort of tenant referencing or tenant screening for landlords that check their tenant’s background and records to see what type of people they are.

To find spammers on forums, just do a few things. Have an introduction board and send a welcome message to all new members asking them to tell a little about themselves in the intro board. If they dont and go straight into your advertising board, its for spam. So just make your board accessible for people with 10-30 posts. It stops people from spam. Some mods can allow you to prevent certain new members from posting any links.

Next look at their signature, if it has illegal links, take them off because it is on your forum and it can hurt you. Now look at the quality of their posts, not the quantity. If its just “Thanks” or “I agree” its spam. Even if they are not putting in links. It is spam. They are doing this to get their post count up for their sig links or to get a prize or gift or whatever is being ran.

I will post more ways of finding spam members later on. Thanks!
